Join us for an updated look at Datadog's journey with Rust, a programming language that has gained significant popularity over the past few years both for systems engineering, and for high-performance backend services.
In this episode, we revisit our earlier exploration of Rust and dive deep into how we've scaled its adoption across our engineering organization since 2022. Scott Gerring, Developer Advocate, will chat with Duarte Nunes, Staff Software Engineer on the Metrics Storage Platform, and Toby Lawrence, Senior Software Engineer on the Agent Metric Pipelines team. They will discuss the lessons learnt since Datadog began its adoption of Rust, and areas where it has continued to gain usage within Datadog and why - looking in particular at adoption for high-performance services, shared libraries, and the Datadog Agent. They will also discuss impediments to adoption in existing engineering organisations.
By the end of the session you'll gain an understanding of the common patterns where Rust adoption can make sense, and have a sense of the amount of effort and challenges involved.
